South River High School’s varsity cheerleaders won the Feb. 18 state competition, says coach Robin Beck.

While the championship trophy went to Edgewater’s South River squad, Northeast High School was second and Chesapeake High School finished in third. Arundel placed sixth at state and Broadneck was eighth.

“It was the best state competition I've ever seen, so competitive with a lot of great teams,” Beck said. “It's been a great year for South River, we won regionals and states in both the fall and winter seasons.”
