South River High School Sports: Week of Dec. 12
Wrestlers and girls varsity basketball started their seasons with wins last week.
Some of the Seahawk teams begin a winter break in sports action after this week's games. But until then, athletes from are busy with action on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Here is the breakdown:
Basketball
The girls varsity team came out of the gate last Wednesday with a strong win against Annapolis High School (62-51). On Friday, they took care of Southern Bulldogs at home (61-52) bringing their overall record to 2-0. On Monday, they face Riverdale Baptist at home (6:45 p.m.). The team's next in-county game is at Severna Park High, 5 p.m. on Dec. 16.

The boys varsity team hasn't been as lucky as the girls. They fell in their first two games, against Patuxent High (61-63) and Annapolis High (60-84). They bounced back at home against Southern on Friday (64-54) putting their record for the season at 1-2. Look for an exciting matchup on Friday when they go to Severna Park to play the Falcons (7 p.m.).

Almost all of the Seahawk meets this season will be held at the Prince George's County Sports Complex in Landover. This week, on Thursday, they're at the Armory in Baltimore for a meet against Baltimore County schools. All meets begin at 3:30 p.m.
Swimming
Swimming starts up Friday at the Arundel Swim Center on Riva Road in Annapolis. After that, swimmers don't have any events until Jan. 7.
Wrestling
Wrestlers started their season with a busy two-meet week, facing off first against Chesapeake, then Broadneck, both away. Luckily the Seahawks stayed on top, 44-19 and 34-27, respectively. They hosted Glen Burnie this past Thursday (84-0), bringing the team to an early season record of 3-0. Next up, look at a Tuesday tri-meet at 4 p.m., pitting the Seahawks against the Northeast High Eagles and the Severna Park Falcons.
