Summer Will Begin Early for Southern Middle Students
The board approved a calendar waiver and the school year will end the year one day early on June 13.

Summer vacation will begin one day early for Southern Middle School students.
The Maryland State Board of Education approved a request for a waiver of the 180-day school calendar requirement for Southern Middle School. The final day of the school year will now be Thursday, June 13, according to a release.
The early closing is necessary to help with the move of Lothian Elementary School into space at Southern Middle while the new Lothian Elementary is constructed over the next two years.

Southern Middle joins eight other county schools with similar early closings. They are: Annapolis High School; Central and Severn River middle schools; Phoenix Academy; and Crofton, Lothian, Mills-Parole, and Point Pleasant elementary schools.
The last day of classes at other schools across the county is scheduled for Friday, June 14.

Parents should note that the last day of school for graduating seniors is May 30.
