Three Edgewater residents escaped injury when a two-alarm caused an estimated $100,000 damage to their house Sunday night.

Just after 7:30 p.m. Anne Arundel County firefighters were called to the fire in the 3700 block of Oak Lane. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke coming from a two-story house. The fire was active in the basement and had expanded to the first and second floors.

Fifty firefighters brought the fire under control in about 90 minutes. Investigators on the scene say the cause of the fire is under investigation and currently undetermined. Damage is estimated at $100,000 and the Red Cross assisted three adults who were displaced by the blaze.

There were no injuries; however, it does not appear that there were working smoke alarms in the dwelling. Fire officials recommend that residents install smoke alarms inside each bedroom, outside each sleeping area and on every level of the home, including the basement. Alarms should be tested monthly.
