Tuesday: Schools and Senior Centers are Closed
Power remains out for 84K customers in Anne Arundel County.
Anne Arundel County Public Schools spokesman Bob Mosier said that because of ongoing widespread power outages and transportation issues, all Anne Arundel County schools will be closed tomorrow, August 30 (Tuesday).
A Code Blue will be in effect for employees.
Mosier said that twelve-month employees who are unable to get to their work location because of travel, child care, or other hardships should discuss their specific situation with their supervisor.

Mosier said that 36 of the 120 schools in the county are still without power. However, he said that parents should not assume that AACPS will wait to resume a normal schedule until every school has power.
Factors being considered (in addition to whether schools have power) include the ability of staff and bus drivers to get to work, safety of students who walk to school and transportation concerns such as road closures and intersections without working traffic signals.

Mosier said only 10 schools reported water issues related to the storm and the damage wasn't much worse than what might be expected during a "spring thunderstorm."
The school calendar has four days built in at the end of the school year for emergency closings. Mosier said that he's not sure how the calendar will be impacted if more emergency days are needed. He noted that some days may be waived, given that a "State of Emergency" was declared in the city of Annapolis, Anne Arundel County and the state of Maryland. Such a waiver was granted in 2010 after winter storms when students missed more days than the calendar allowed.
There are still issues related to updating the school system website, so further information will continue to be passed through local media outlets and additional phone messages.
The , on Stepney's Lane in Edgewater will also be closed Tuesday. Van transportation service will not be available, except for those who use the service for transport to dialysis treatment.
As of 6 p.m. on Monday, BGE was reporting that 84,237 households and businesses remained without power in Anne Arundel County. In all of Maryland 316,182 customers were without power as of Monday evening.

In Davidsonville, two BGE workers spent the entire day Monday parked in a car watching snarled power lines, the victim of a felled tree, on Mt. Airy Road. According to the workers, they were left to make sure that no one went near the lines, which may be live. Repair crews had yet to come by to make assessments, which are necessary for crews to order parts and make repairs.
In Edgewater, including the neighborhoods of Loch Haven, Withernsea, Annapolis Landing, Selby and Beverly Beach, Patch readers indicated that BGE trucks were barely visible on Monday, and that repair work seemed to have slowed from the frenzy of trucks spotted Sunday.
In fact, BGE is now indicating that repairs to all neighborhoods might not be complete until Thursday or Friday of this week.
