US Postal Service May Close Thousands of Local Post Office

How often do you use the post office? Would you be upset if any of the four local post offices closed?

Can you imagine or or or without a post office? Soon, some neighborhoods may have to travel a bit farther to post their parcels.

The US Postal Service is expected to announce the closing of about 3,653 post offices Tuesday, according to the Wall Street Journal.

According to Sen. Tom Carper of Delaware, the Postal Service is facing an $8.5 billion deficit. Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe told a Senate panel that the Postal Service may need to close up to 16,000 post offices over the next 10 years. There are currently about 32,000 post offices in operation around the country.

Postal officials say that more people are paying bills online and are sending emails rather than letters. The post offices slated for closure are those with low traffic and retail sales.
