Volunteer Opportunties Available
The Anne Arundel County Volunteer Center announces open volunteer positions.

The Anne Arundel Office of Emergency Management coordinates resources and facilitates the response and recovery efforts of local, state, federal and private agencies in emergencies. The office has a variety of volunteer opportunities available. There is a particular need at this time for volunteer drivers (with four-wheel drive vehicles), age 21 and up, and with a good driving record, to transport caregivers to local facilities in inclement weather conditions. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Breakfast Help Needed

- The 31st Annual Dr, Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Breakfast will be held at Anne Arundel Community College from 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Jan 16. The keynote speaker will be Rep. Elijah E. Cummings. Volunteers are needed the day before (from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 15) to help set up the space in the community college gymnasium, including help with decorating, flowers, and handouts. There will be upwards of 500 people at the breakfast the next day, so come out and help make it extra special. Consider donating two hours—or less depending on the number of helpers.
Regency Park Assisted Living Seeks Driver
Regency Park provides supportive care to residents at their facility in Gambrills. A volunteer driver (with four-wheel drive vehicle), age 21 and up and with a good driving record, is needed to transport caregivers to the facility in inclement weather during the winter months. Meals on Wheels of Central Maryland
Individuals and groups can assist the homebound as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Volunteer as little as one hour a month to make a world of difference. Drivers needed to deliver meals Monday through Friday (holidays included) between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Volunteers also are needed to accompany drivers, pack meals, or make birthday or other greeting cards to be delivered with the meals. Many opportunities are flexible, and training is provided. Locations are in Glen Burnie (Pascal Senior Center), Annapolis (St. Martin’s Lutheran on Forest Drive), and Severna Park (Woods Church). Routes in Annapolis and Glen Burnie communities are in urgent need of drivers. Meals on Wheels can also use volunteers to man displays and assist at fundraising events and a variety of other activities. Email Terry Lehr or call 410-626-7543.
- Young Volunteers 14 and over are encouraged to help Meals on Wheels. Packers are needed from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. to prepare and package meals for clients at Annapolis and Severna Park sites. Visitor volunteers, 18 years and up, can help to deliver meals to clients with an experienced volunteer from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Younger volunteers, if they have a Meals on Wheels volunteer as a parent or grandparent can visit and deliver meals. National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)
There are many ways you can give your time to help NAMI Maryland. Help with advocacy, fundraising, training, education, community outreach or administrative assistance in the office. Whether you have a lot of free time or only a little, they can use some help. Coordinate your skills to their needs by calling 410-884-8691 or emailing info@namimd.org.
Volunteer Center For Anne Arundel County FLEX Volunteer Program
- Harmony House in Pasadena: A small group of volunteers is needed to help with taking down holiday decorations and help with sorting and cleaning children's toys. Volunteers are needed from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Jan. 6, 2012. Volunteers interested in this project should email Sarah Litts.
