15 Wrestlers Move On To State Wrestling Tournament

The Class 2A/1A West region tournament was held at North Hagerstown with Century, Liberty and South Carroll finishing third, fourth and fifth, with 15 wrestlers now advancing to the state Class 2A/1A wrestling tournament.

Liberty’s Ben Greene at 160 and Century’s Brandon Antrobus led the local schools with first place wins in the region. They both earned top seeds for the state tournament.

Century leads with five wrestlers advancing to College Park, while Liberty and South Carroll have four each.

County foe Winters Mill captured their first regional crown with victory in Hagerstown.

Carroll County has a rich heritage in the state meet. A county school has won individual titles for 28 straight years and 35 out of 37 years. Westminster won state team titles in 1975 and 1986, while Francis Scott Key, North Carroll and South Carroll have logged second place finishes since 1980. The Cavaliers were second in 1999 and 2001.

The top four finishers in each weight class advance to the state tournament at the University of Maryland's Cole Field House on March 4 and 5.
