Baseball and Lacrosse: Area Athletes Show Skills In College
A roundup of accomplishments from area athletes playing for their college teams.

Katie Schwarzmann, Lacrosse (Century High School/Sykesville, MD) - Sophomore, University of Maryland.
- Schwarzmann assisted the Terps in winning their 11th straight game this season, "rolling" past Towson 17-8 on March 29. Schwarzmann scored a pair of goals in the final 25 seconds of the first half, giving the Terrapins an 11-4 edge at the intermission. While at Century, Schwarzmann nabbed the ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Jon Mahaffey, Baseball (Century High School/Sykesville, MD) - Freshman, Washington College.
- Mahaffey had two hits when Washington College fell to McDaniel Sunday 12-1, bringing their record to 13-9 for the season, while McDaniel improved to 10-8. Mahaffey also had two hits when Washington College fell to Widener University 16-11 on March 30. While at Century, Mahaffey was the runner-up for the Carroll County Player of the Year and led Carroll County in batting average in 2008.
Sean Connole, Baseball (St. John's Catholic/Mt. Airy, MD) - Sophomore, Washington College.

- Connole hit an RBI single for Washington College when they fell to Widener University 16-11 on March 30. He also scored for Washington when they met McDaniel on Sunday 12-1, bringing their record to 13-9 for the season, while McDaniel improved to 10-8. While at St. John's, Connole was an All-Conference selection as a junior and senior in both baseball and soccer.
