Boys Lacrosse: Cavaliers Hold Off Linganore for "Ugly" Win
South Carroll topped Linganore Saturday afternoon 12-9.
South Carroll boys lacrosse used multiple hat tricks to down rival Linganore 12-9 in a weather make-up game Saturday afternoon. The other Cavalier goal was collected by Nick Cimino.
"Sloppy. We won ugly, I guess you could say," Cavalier coach Bill McDermott said after the game.
Chris Frederick and Ben McCarty had four goals each while teammate Joe Wright had three. McCarthy and Frederick each had an assist in the win.

The two schools are neighbors and the players played together in rec leagues before high school.
"For the Mount Airy kids, some of them know each other. It’s a big rivaly because the schools are close. Linganore’s a bigger school," said McDermott.

Linganore got on the board first on a goal by Michael Kinsley at the 8:42 mark. South Carroll scored about three mintues later on a shot by Frederick. The Cavaliers never trailed again, but they were tied 2-all at the end of the first quarter.
Wright and Frederick scored within the opening 45 seconds of the second quarter and held the lead the rest of the way.
The final five minutes of the game looked like flag day as the yellow flag was flying for both teams. South Carroll went through a time two men down and Linganore scored once and then the Lancers were down three men and South Carroll scored.
"He had a nice game. He’s been playing well," said McDermott about goalie Taylor Schmitz.
South Carroll peppered the Linganore goal with 43 shoots. The Lancers took 29 shots. Schmitz stopped 12 of the Linganore shots. The Lancers goalie stopped 13 shots.
"We are really trying to concentrate on defense. They had some shooters we really weren’t ready for. We should have been better prepared, but we will work on that," McDermott said.
