Carroll County Education Foundation Receives Grant
The grant will support a third grade recycling project.

The Carroll County Public Schools Education Foundation has received a $5,000 grant from the Constellation Energy Foundation.
The Constellation Energy EcoStar grant program targets community-based projects that fit into one or more of five environmental stewardship categories: pollution prevention, education and outreach, energy efficiency, conservation, and community activism.
A total of 85 grants of up to $5,000 each were awarded to nonprofit organizations throughout the United States.

The grant will support a proposed unit entitled the "CCPS Grade 3 Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Action Project," which will support students in learning about where materials used in everyday life come from and end up at the end of their life cycle.
Students will collect data regarding the waste from their own school cafeteria.

The grant support will allow students to begin small scale composting at their school as a means of reusing materials and reducing landfill volume.
The curricular support that connects the role of reducing, reusing, and recycling as it relates to natural resources supports STEM initiatives to allow students to investigate authentic issues.
