Century and Liberty Capture Regional Track Crowns

Century took the boys and Liberty won the girls Class 2A Regional track meet Saturday at Winters Mill.

The Lions were led to the win by sophomore sprinter Ashley Ross. She won the 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes and ran a leg on the 4X100 meter relay which finished second.

Teammates Samantha McElroy took the 800 meter run, Ashlyn Anderson the discus and Jamie Russell the pole vault. The 4X800 relay came home in first, which McElroy ran a leg on.

The Lions took the first three positions in the pole vault as Amanda Eng and Betsy Atkinson leaped to second and third.

Century was third with 65 points, as senior Maura Linde sat out the meet with an injury. South Carroll with eighth with 21 points.

Senior Josh Titus and sophomore Julian Woods led the Knights to the boys title. Woods had the only win for Century as he took the 300 meter hurdles. He was second in the 110 hurdles and ran a leg on each the 4X200 and 4X100 relays which finished in fourth.

Titus was second in the 100 and 200 meter dashes and third in the 400. He ran a leg on the 4X400 relay which was fourth.

Liberty was seventh with 48 points, while South Carroll totaled 21 for ninth. The Cavaliers were led by Ethan McBryde who broke 21 feet in the long jump for first.

The Lions took first in the 4X100 relay with James Fencil, David MacGregor, Mike Sadler and PJ Vanslyke.

The state meet gets under way Thursday at Morgan State and continues on Saturday.
