Century's Slade Tosses Shutout Against Francis Scott Key
Century and Liberty High sports standings improved after seeing action Wednesday.
The Century Knights outdid county foe Francis Scott Key Wednesday at home while the Lions had a shutout of their own against Winters Mill.
The Knights won a five-inning baseball game 15-0 while softball came out on top 4-0. Boys tennis came out on top 4-1, and the Eagles won the girls tennis match 3-2.
Jake Slade hurled the Knights to the baseball win to move the team to 5-5 in the county and 7-7 overall. Key is 1-8 in the county and 1-10 overall.

Liberty also won a five-inning contest as they shutout Winters Mill 13-0. The Lions are 7-2 in the county and 10-3 overall. Liberty remains in first place in the county as Westminster lost to Manchester Valley.
The softball team was paced by pitcher Alyssa Dixon, who gave up two hits and struck out 10 Eagles.

"Every week, she gets better," said Century coach Jay Seaborg. "We went through five or six innings with nobody getting on base. Just dominating.’’
Mara Wedekind led the winners with two runs batted in on a triple in the second inning. Century scored three runs in the second inning and one in the fourth for the win.
Century had eight hits in the game, four in the second inning. The Knights had two triples and a double in the contest.
Century improved to 6-3 in the county and 8-5 overall. The Eagles fall to 1-8 in the county and 2-10 overall.
The Liberty softball team also came home a winner in five-innings as they stopped Winters Mill 17-3. The Lions are undefeated in the county 9-0 and 11-1 overall.
