Century Senior Selected as Candidate for Presidential Scholars Program
Patrick Komiske was selected as a candidate for the United States Presidential Scholars Program.

Patrick Komiske, a senior at , was recently selected as a candidate for the United States Presidential Scholars Program.
The program recognizes and honors some of the nation’s most distinguished graduating seniors.
"I am extremely honored to be nominated for the first stage of the US Presidential Scholars Program," said Komiske. "I'd like to thank all of my family, friends, teachers, and teammates. It wasn't just an individual effort to get this nomination," he said.

Komiske is a National AP Scholar and received the U.S. Achievement Academy National Mathematics Award. He has received twelve consecutive Straight A Honor Roll Awards and is a member of the National Honor Society and the Student Government Association.
Komiske received an SAT score of 2350, including an 800 on the math section, in addition to receiving a perfect score on the ACT and eight Advanced Placement (AP) tests.

Komiske has also participated in an internship at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab.
He is also president of the Debate Team and captain of the Academic Team, which has been the county champion for two consecutive years. He is a member of the popular local teen band Crossfire and has performed the keyboard in the pit for Century musical productions.
He also has accumulated more than 350 service learning hours, including mission trips to Owego, New York, and Elkins, West Virginia.
Each year, 3,000 candidates are identified for the academic component of the Presidential Scholars Program, based on having scored exceptionally well on the SAT or the ACT. To be eligible for selection as one of the 500 semifinalists, the student must submit materials for review, including essays, self-assessments, secondary school reports, and transcripts.
The White House Commission on Presidential Scholars reviews the applications of the semifinalists and selects up to 121 Academic Scholars and up to 20 Arts Scholars.
The Scholars will be honored for their accomplishments during a national Recognition Weekend to be held in Washington, D.C. in June and will receive the Presidential Scholars Medallion at a ceremony sponsored by the White House.
