High School Sports: Falcons Blank Cavaliers in County Field Hockey

finished the county field hockey schedule with a 3-0 loss to visiting Winters Mill.

South Carroll fell to 1-6 in the county and 2-9 overall. Winters Mill is 4-2 in the county and 6-3 overall.

Winters Mill scored once in the first half as Kayleigh Phillips scored at the 23:10 mark with Sydney Trentzsch assisting.

The second half was physical with the Falcons scoring twice. Sydney Buell scored at 27:03 on an assist from Olivia Decesare. Winters Mill scored their last goal with 1:37 left in the game as Becca Contarino found the net on a pass from Molly VanLeuvan.

"We work hard and just can’t score," said South Carroll coach Ashley Boumel. "We don't capitalize when we need to. We have had trouble with that all year. That’s why we are 2-9 now."

South Carroll took one shot in the game compared to 10 for Winters Mill. Kayla Holston made eight saves for the Cavaliers while her counterpart, Heather Lowe made one. The Falcons lined up for eight short corners, while the home team had three.

South Carroll closes out the regular season Thursday at Middletown.

After the game the Cavalier seniors were honored as it was their last regular season home game.
