Fire Causes Damage to American Legion in Sykesville

Firefighters from the March 8 were alerted to a fire at the  in Sykesville, according to a post by firefighter Marc Maczis on the department's website. 

Once the trucks arrived, firefighters reported smoke showing from the building.

After further investigation, the building was found "charged with smoke from an outside fire in a mulch bed."

The cause of the fire was determined to be heavy winds, which led the flames to extend up the exterior of the building. 

Minor damage was caused to the outside and roof of the American Legion. Firefighters were on the scene for about an hour.
