High School Girls Lacrosse: Liberty Wins Sister Match Up

Two local sisters competed against each other in a match up between Liberty and Garrison Forest Monday.

There was more than a game of Liberty vs. Garrison Forest in girls lacrosse Monday as two sisters lined up against each other.

Liberty captured the contest played on the turf field at Garrison Forest, 13-6.

It was the first time Julie and Amanda LeGar were on the field at the same time in their careers. They have never played with or against each other until Monday.

"The first time ever and maybe last. I hope not, though. We have never played together. I have played together with her indoor, but never actually on a real team," said Julie after the game.

Amanda is a senior at Liberty and Julie is a freshmen for the Grizzlies. It was easy for their family to follow them as they both wear number 17.

17 is a family number, as there is a younger LeGar sister that also wears 17, but Amanda started the family number of 17.

"It is, she started it. The youngest one is 17, too. I’m proud of them both. They have a younger sister, who has just left for practice. She stayed until the end of the game and then left. She was rooting for both too. We kept going, go 17," said mom Terry LeGar after clicking a picture of the two after the game.

Amanda had a big game leading the Lions in scoring with four goals. Julie tossed in one for the home team.

"I had to make sure I had more goals than her," said Amanda.

Amanda has been accepted into the Nursing program at Stevenson and will play for the Mustangs next year.

"I have helped her across the years, like coaching her and helping coach her team. It was good to see how much she has developed. She is going to be great by the time she is a senior, a few years from now," said Amanda about her sister after the game.

They defended each other early in the game, but then eventually lined up for a few draws. Julie, being taller won a few of the draws.

"Okay, I am going to beat her at least once. I had too," said Julie.

When the game was over and the two teams lined up, the two sisters hugged and posed for pictures as they left the field.

"Our mom actually coached both of us. She actually coached both of our teams (rec leagues). I think she deserves a lot of credit," Amanda said. Besides playing for Liberty, she also referees in the Freedom Rec League.

Asked if there was any trash talking at Sunday dinner, Julie said, "We talked about it a long time before the game actually happened. We were ready. We have been talking about it forever."

The coaches were also familiar with each other as Garrison Forest head coach Jess Onheiser and assistant coach Julie Roguski and Liberty head coach Kristin Crutchfield are Liberty alumni.

Also finding the net for Liberty was Georgia Karr and Maggie McCormick with three goals each, Rebecka Coughlin, Haley Price and Jenna Crutchfield each had one goal. Schylar Healy made some big saves to keep the Grizzlies from getting back into the game.

Liberty improves to 5-2 for the season.
