High School Lacrosse: Owls Top Lions in Resumed Girls Game

Westminster was ahead going into the match up and came out on top of Liberty Wednesday night.

Liberty outscored Westminster 5 to 4 Wednesday afternoon in girls lacrosse, but lost the game, as the Owls had a 16-12 lead going into the contest.

The game was resumed from the point it was stopped on April 11 when lightning flashed through the sky.

"There was a lot of anxiety with our girls. We just wanted to finish the game. Finally glad we got the opportunity to come out here and finish it and thankful it’s a win," said Westminster coach Jackie Stevens.

The Owls won the game 20-17 as Carolyn Jamison scored three of the Westminster’s four goals Wednesday. She ended the game with six goals.

Alex Simpson added the other goal. Scoring in the game for Westminster besides Jamison and Simpson was Jordan Wilkins with four goals, Alyssa Semones with three, Megan Macera and Jessica Carder had two each, while Kate Haker and Bethany Baer each had one.

"They (Westminster) had to come out and play like they know how," Stevens said she told the Owls before the game Wednesday.

Maggie McCormick picked up where she left off in the game. She scored three goals Wednesday to go with the eight she had, McCormick finished with 11 goals. Amanda Legar and Jenna Crutchfield also scored Wednesday.

Crutchfield ended the game with two goals while Legar, Maggie Griffin, Jenna Crutchfield, Megan Topper and Georgia Karr each had one.

"You know we have had a lot of talks about that Century game and we said we have to move on. There is nothing we can change or do expect give a little bit more heart, be a little bit more motivated, so we made sure we were ready to go this game. Heart makes a lot of difference," said Lion coach Kristen Crutchfield.

Westminster improved to 2-0 in the county and 5-0 overall. The Owls visit Century today for a 4 p.m. encounter. The Lions dip to 1-2 in the county and 3-2 overall.
