Lacrosse: South Carroll Girls Drop Regional Championship Game
South Carroll was topped by Winters Mill Wednesday 19-0.
South Carroll’s surprising run though the 2A-1A West Region girls lacrosse came to an end Wednesday as Winters Mill downed the Falcons, 19-9.
The weather made the county fields unplayable and the game was moved to Garrison Forest School in Baltimore County.
The Cavaliers, seeded 10th in the region opened the tournament by defeating Brunswick, next knocked off Poolesville and continued with a victory against Glenelg. All of the games were roads games.

Asked what changed after Slifer scored, Cavalier coach Meghan Malehorn said, "Just winning the draw. Winning the draw is one of the most important parts of the game. It determines possession and we weren’t boxing out and coming off the circle and coming off the line hard."
The Cavaliers were out scored in the second half 9-3. Two of the goals were scored by Slifer, who had four in the game. The other score came off the stick of Alexia Legambi. She had two goals in the game. The other scores for South Carroll were by Summerly Merson with two and Kimmie DeLonge with one.
Slifer was double teamed at times and Malehorn said it wasn’t something new. "A lot of teams double teamed Erin throughout the year. That’s just something we offset in other directions and other ways."
Winters Mill moves onto to the state tournament with a 11-3 record. The Cavaliers closed out the season with a 6-8 mark.
"We worked hard every time we came out. We worked on stuff to come away a stronger team. Even today we did stuff and came away a stronger team today," said Malehorn.
