High School Sports: Lions Pin Owls in Wrestling

used five pins to down Westminster High 56-9 Wednesday night.

The Lions got pins from Tony Craig, Dan Bowen, Tony Bassani, Joe Kuegler and Luke Yox. Cam Harrison and Tony Retalliata both scored major decisions.

"I was very pleased with our performance throughout the lineup. I felt that the guys represented themselves well and worked to improve technique and battle against a young Westminster team," said Liberty coach Mike Flemming.

In an early season match up Casey Shea won a decision over Westminster’s Tyler Green 7-3.  Shea drew first points with a takedown and then Green got a reverse to end the first period tied at 2. Green got an escape to start the second period, but than it was all Shea as he scored the next five points.

"Casey’s match against Tyler was a very good win. Tyler is a very solid wrestler. We thought there was a chance they would see each other tonight. We were happy that they did. That is something that’s a great way to start the season, especially in the dual meet part of it. So it helps in terms of county standings, it helps moving forward as pick up tough competition," said Flemming.

Liberty improved to 5-2 on the season and 1-0 in the county. Westminster is 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the county.
