Johnson was the head coach of the Liberty High School boys varsity basketball team since 2000.
Liberty boys varsity basketball coach Steven Johnson died Wednesday due to complications from a lung infection. He recently underwent surgery and complications set in during recovery.
Johnson was the Lion's head coach since 2000. He graduated from South Carroll High School in 1979.
Johnson started his coaching career as an assistant under Cavalier coach Jim Carnes. He spent 13 years with South Carroll before being named head coach at Liberty.

The Lions compiled a 101-149 record under his guidance including being county co-champions in 2004.
Johnson led Liberty to six winning season as coach at the Eldersburg school.
