Steel Beam from Ground Zero En Route to Carroll County
The Carroll County Sheriff's Office is escorting piece of World Trade Center from New York to Maryland.
Carroll County’s 9/11 memorial is one step closer to becoming a reality.
A steel beam recovered from ground zero will arrive in Carroll County Wednesday, according to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.
The steel beam that was once part of the World Trade Center will travel from New York to Carroll County—escorted by the sheriff’s office, Maryland State Police, Westminster Police, Carroll County fire companies and the emergency services association—along Baltimore Boulevard and MD 97 Wednesday, the statement said.

The Carroll County Volunteer Emergency Services Association applied for the artifact and was recently notified the request would be granted, the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
Students at the Carroll County Career and Technology Center will design and a memorial to house the piece of the World Trade Center, according to the statement.

When complete, there will be a public ceremony in recognition of the 9/11 memorial.
