Sykesville Motorcyclist Killed in Route 32 Crash: Police

Witnesses reportedly said the motorcycle was speeding before colliding with another vehicle.

A Sykesville motorcyclist died and another driver was hospitalized Tuesday after a crash that shut down MD Route 32 for four hours in West Friendship, the Howard County Police Department reported.

Nicholas Richard Moulthrop, 30, of Sykesville, was pronounced dead at the scene on Route 32 at Livestock Road, where his motorcycle collided with an SUV, according to the report.

At 5:08 p.m. Tuesday, Moulthrop had been driving a 2015 Kawasawki Ninja 1000 south on Route 32 when he crashed into a 2010 Jeep Liberty that was turning left from northbound Route 32 onto Livestock Road, police reported.

Stuart Mark Stein, 65, of Gwynn Oak, driver of the Jeep, was taken to Howard County General Hospital, where police said he was listed in stable condition Tuesday night.

Route 32 was closed between Route 99 and I-70 for four hours as officials investigated, according to police.

β€œPreliminary investigation and witness accounts revealed the Kawasaki was traveling at a high rate of speed just prior to the collision,” police reported.

The investigation is ongoing.
