BLOG: Danger, Danger—Bad Bridge Ahead

People drive and walk and even ride bikes on Route 1 daily. However, they don’t know the possible danger of one small bridge in Elkridge.

"Where is this bridge?" you might ask.

The bridge is across from Troy Hill, and the fact is the bridge is falling apart. There is a pipe that has fallen down into the water that is still attached to the bridge, concrete is falling down or gone, concrete under a steel beam is gone and other things are more worn than that under there.

The State Highway Administration (SHA) has given me the runaround. I have tried to contact different agencies about this bridge and still no result. As I was riding past one day, I saw a truck parked on the bridge with tools and everything on it. I said, "Great, they are going to fix it at last!"

I went under the bridge that afternoon and saw that nothing had been done at all and the truck was just a regular pickup truck but had no name or anything on it so I know it was not an SHA truck. So next time you walk, ride, drive, or maybe even jog, think about how bad the bridge has gotten and feel free to call and complain to the SHA and maybe just maybe they can fix this bridge before it is too late.
