Elkridge Woman Involved in Serious Waterloo Crash: Police

Two people were taken to shock trauma in serious condition following a crash on Waterloo Road in Columbia Saturday afternoon, police said.

The crash occurred in the 6300 block of Waterloo Road at approximately 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 3, according to a report from the Howard County Police Department.

A 31-year-old Elkridge woman—Melissa Boop of the 7800 block of Butterfield Road—was headed north on Waterloo Road in a 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan when the van crossed the double-yellow line and hit another vehicle head-on, police reported. The other vehicle was a 2004 Toyota RAV4, according to the report.

The Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services took Boop and the other driver—Brian Shipley, 58, of the 4900 block of Orchard Drive in Ellicott City—to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in serious condition, according to the report.

Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts and were the only individuals inside their respective vehicles, police said.

According to police, Waterloo Road was closed between Mayfield Avenue and Old Waterlooo Road until 5:30 p.m. for cleanup and crash investigation.
