Funeral Arrangements for William Donald Schaefer

The body of former Gov. William Donald Schaefer, who died Monday at the age of 89, will be taken on a tour of Baltimore landmarks before it is laid to rest.

The body of Schaefer, who helped revitalize the city, will be taken to visit Harborplace, the National Aquarium and the stadiums, said Michael Golden, who served as Schaefer's press secretary during his state service.

Schaefer will lie in state from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, April 25, in the State House rotunda.

Plans call for Schaefer to lie in state in the Baltimore City Hall rotunda that evening. Before the casket arrives, it will pass the Baltimore landmarks. A complete list of stops will be released later Tuesday, Golden said.

The casket is expected at City Hall at 5 p.m. Monday and the public is welcome in City Hall until 9 p.m., Golden said.

Schaefer will lie in state at City Hall from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday as well. 

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Old St. Paul's Church. Schaefer will be laid to rest at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens in a mausoleum he purchased for himself and his former girlfriend, Hilda Mae Snoops, who died in 1999, according to his former press secretary Mike Golden and another lifelong friend, Gene Raynor.
