Routine Maintenance Outside Elkridge Library

County spokesman said work to be complete by month's end.

The bulldozers and other machines rolling around Rowanberry Drive near the  are performing routine maintenance, according to Howard County spokesman Kevin Enright.

Public works crews have been "mucking out" the pond, said Enright. "They should be in there a week or two depending on the weather."

Muck, or sediment, builds up on the floor of lakes over time as the result of runoff like grass clippings and animal waste, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, and can produce conditions toxic to plants and fish. According to the agency, periodically mucking the bottom of lakes can improve water quality.
