Say no to the legalization of POT.

As we move further down the road in the State of Maryland, I feel pressures bearing down on our Citizens who are going to decide whether POT should be legally sold and smoked in our State.  Look on the internet and you will see a story about States like Washington, or Colorado and their efforts (or lack of effort to stop) the changes in the laws to okay the use and sale of POT!  Everywhere we are told our jails are full, it’s a harmless crime, it only affects those who choose to do it, and we are wasting resources on these crimes.  It is all inane to me.  I offer a slightly different view; I was a big POT smoker in High School and graduated with a bad vocabulary, 1.5 average in Foreign Language, and an overall GPA of 2.1.  I did the minimum required by the State of Maryland to graduate High School.  Smoking Pot stifles ambition when smoked every day.   I don’t need a survey, or Government Study, to tell me that if fact.  I know it I have lived it and seen it in others for the last 40 years.  I am grateful I put POT away at UMCP and I was able to graduate with a degree in Business.  I do not care to change the way POT has been handled for the past 40 years, what is so terrible about pretending its okay to smoke it and leaving those who do smoke it alone?  Why the pressure to legalize POT now?

I could care less if anyone lights  up a doobie on their own in the dark but when you want to sell it out in the open right next to Starbucks I have a problem with that. I don’t care how well the Government ensures that the growers and sellers are regulated are legitimate in their stores; I know how easily things are sold for cash in our society.  People have the notion that only legal card holders will be able to buy POT and others will be turned away.  I for one don’t buy that, POT will be sold out the back door and it will be sold to kids and others who have the money.  We have all seen that guy selling CD players from some store (Best Buy) on RT 2 in Glen Burnie.

The State of Maryland has long been tough on issues but short on conscious.   The death penalty is a thing of the past and I am sure criminals with life sentences will be seeing freedom before their lives are up.  I know the State is trying to do a good thing pushing cigarette smoking out of the public eye, but at the same time has not done anything to slow down the sales of tobacco probably because of revenue generated in the form of taxes.   I can still go anywhere to buy a pack of cigarettes and we all know it is too easy to get them.  Now the State is thinking about legalizing POT, and I have a problem with this hypocrisy.   How can POT be okay to smoke and cigarettes will not?  Both are bad for you.

Not all of us who are against legalization of POT are on the Right, I am a registered Democrat who votes in every election in the State of Maryland, and has since 1982. I really don't care who smokes POT, nor do I want a witch hunt for those who do smoke POT, but smoke POT on your own time in your own world. Legalization of POT is the dumbest idea I have ever heard.
