New Year’s Day is one of several holidays that usually affect the hours of government offices, libraries, public transportation, garbage pickup and other services in Howard County.

Open New Year's Eve
- Regular Friday curbside trash, recycling, yard trim and food scrap collection service
- County parks (no staff present)
- Alpha Ridge Landfill will close at 2 p.m.
- Baltimore & Ohio Ellicott City Station Museum will close at 3 p.m.
- Robinson Nature Center will close at 3 p.m.
- Gary J. Arthur, North Laurel and Roger Carter Community Centers will close at 5 p.m.
- RTA operates regular service
- Parking fees enforced
