What’s Open, Closed On New Year’s Day 2022 In Howard County

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — While New Year’s Day is often a day to recover from the previous night's festivities, if you do plan to head out, it’s good to know how the holiday may affect the availability of services across Howard County.

New Year’s Day is one of several holidays that usually affect the hours of government offices, libraries, public transportation, garbage pickup and other services in Howard County.

To help you plan, here’s a roundup of what’s open and what’s closed on New Year’s Eve and New Year's Day:

Open New Year's Eve

• Regular Friday curbside trash, recycling, yard trim and food scrap collection service
• County parks (no staff present)
• Alpha Ridge Landfill will close at 2 p.m.
• Baltimore & Ohio Ellicott City Station Museum will close at 3 p.m.
• Robinson Nature Center will close at 3 p.m.
• Gary J. Arthur, North Laurel and Roger Carter Community Centers will close at 5 p.m.
• RTA operates regular service
• Parking fees enforced

Closed New Year's Eve

• Howard County government offices
• Howard County courts
• Howard County animal shelter
• 50+ centers
• County historic sites

Open New Year's Day

• Howard County parks (no staff present)

Closed New Year's Day

• Historic Ellicott City and its nearby communities' Saturday trash collection will occur Dec. 31
• Alpha Ridge Landfill Community centers
• Athletic complex and activity rooms
