1 Injured When Electric Vehicle Catches On Fire On I-95

One person was taken to the hospital while another refused treatment after an electric vehicle caught on fire Wednesday on I-91.

ELKRIDGE, MD — An electric vehicle caught fire Wednesday morning on southbound Interstate 95 near the exit for Maryland Route 100 in the Elkridge area.

Around 9 a.m., firefighters were called to I-95 at Route 100 for a report of a vehicle fire. They found the electric vehicle on fire and called for the special operations team due to a risk of "potential toxicity" related to electric vehicle fires. Air quality and runoff tests were conducted and no concerning issues were detected, officials said.

The driver of the vehicle managed to get out safely before the fire department arrived. Two people at the scene were evaluated by emergency medical technicians for potential smoke inhalation. One person refused to go to the hospital while the second person was taken by ambulance to a hospital, officials said.
