1 Killed, 5 Hospitalized in Mount Airy Crash: Police

Howard County police said vehicle hit tree, overturned.

One person was killed and five people were taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center after a crash in Mount Airy Friday evening, police said.

At approximately 11:57 p.m. on Friday, a Ford F-350 truck was headed north on Shaffersville Road between Shaffers Mill and Long Corner roads when it left the road, overturned and hit a tree, according to police.

James Nicholas Dejordy, 26, of the 5500 block of Trotter Road in Clarksville, died, according to a statement from the Howard County Police Department.

Five others were in stable condition at shock trauma, the statement said.

Shaffersville Road was closed until 4:30 a.m., police reported.

The cause of the crash was under investigation, according to police.
