5-Year-Old Freed From Gun Safe By Howard County Firefighters

Firefighters broke through the rear wall of the safe and extricated the little boy as they would have with a vehicle extraction.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — A 5-year-old trapped in a large gun safe was rescued by Howard County Fire & EMS workers from stations four out of Lisbon and 13 out of Woodbine Tuesday afternoon. According to the fire department, the child's parents called 911 and a locksmith after realizing the child was locked inside. The fire department was able to break down the rear wall of the safe and extricate the child similar in a manner similar to a vehicle extraction. They monitored the air during the process.

"The child was evaluated and released to the parents and was in good spirits," the fire department shared on its Facebook page.

The child did not need medical attention. The fire department noted that it’s unclear how the child got into the safe.
