Sprinklers Contain Ellicott City Apartment Fire, Officials Say
Firefighters said the blaze in Ellicott City came from the kitchen.

ELLICOTT CITY, MD — Fire broke out at an Ellicott City apartment Friday evening. Officials said they were called to Pine Orchard Lane before 5:30 p.m. for a report of a kitchen fire.
Soon after they arrived at the 3100 block of Pine Orchard Lane, crews reported the fire was under control.
After checking to ensure the flames had not spread, officials declared the blaze out as of 5:45 p.m.

Thanks to the sprinkler system in the apartment building, authorities reported the fire was contained to the room where it started.
The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement advising there is an enhanced threat of wildfires on Friday, March 16. Through Friday evening, weather officials say gusty winds combined with humidity and low fuel moisture will mean that fire could spread rapidly.

People should use caution handling any source of ignition, including matches, cigarettes and machinery.
Authorities ask smokers to take care when discarding smoking materials, noting that if dry grasses and tree litter ignite, the fire could grow out of control.
