Arson Dog Program Recertification Happening In Howard County

Twenty-seven accelerant detection canines from across the country and their handlers are in Howard County undergoing recertification.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — This week, 27 accelerant detection canines from across the country and their handlers are undergoing recertification in Howard County as part of the Arson Dog Program.

During a three-day process, the dogs and handlers underwent testing by officials with Maine State Police as part of their annual evaluation to ensure that their skills are as sharp as the day they graduated from their training program.

HCDFRS' accelerant detection canine, Sowell, and his handler Captain Craig Matthews respond to dozens of incidents in Howard County and surrounding jurisdictions each year.
