Body Of Missing Man Found Near Centennial High School: Police

BREAKING: The Ellicott City man who went out with his dog Sunday evening and did not return has been located deceased, according to police.

ELLICOTT CITY, MD — A missing Ellicott City man has been found deceased, according to the Howard County Police Department.

Stephen Wells Landen, 64, was reported missing after 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 29, police said. He had left his home in the 3700 block of Chateau Ridge Drive to walk his dog, officials reported.

Landen was found deceased near Centennial High School on Monday morning, police said. It appeared that he fell down a steep incline, according to authorities, who said he was found by a school resource officer.

His small white dog was alive near his body, police said.

After Landen was reported missing, police said that officers established a unified command post with the fire department and used K-9 teams, foot searches and a police helicopter through the night to try to find him.

Based on preliminary investigation, police said it appeared that weather may have been a contributing factor, and there were no indications of foul play.

Landen, who had dementia, was not dressed for the weather, police said. Temperatures were in the 40s Sunday night.
