Canoeist Dies Day After Capsizing: Howard County Police
Police said a man died from drowning in a canoeing accident.

ELLICOTT CITY, MD — The canoeist whose boat tipped over in an Ellicott City pond earlier this week has died as a result of drowning, police reported Thursday.
Nicholas Bartko, 20, of Ellicott City, was pronounced deceased on Tuesday, according to officials.
Bartko had been taken to Howard County General Hospital after his vessel capsized behind Tangle Wood Court at approximately 5 a.m. on Monday, authorities reported.

A friend who had been canoeing with the man pulled him from the water, according to officials, who said Bartko was at the side of the pond when police and paramedics arrived at the scene.
After he was taken by ambulance to the hospital, police said Bartko was in critical condition, and he succumbed to his injuries from drowning the following day.
