Celebrate 75! A Community Fest
Join Howard County Library System to Celebrate 75 years of Excellence in Education Saturday, October 24, 10am to 2pm at the Miller Branch
ELLICOTT CITY, MD -- Howard County Library System (HCLS) will mark 75 years of excellence in education on Saturday, October 24 from 10 am to 2 pm at HCLS Miller Branch with CELEBRATE 75! a community anniversary fest. The public is invited to join HCLS President and CEO Valerie Gross, Howard County Executive Allan Kittleman, community leaders, and special guests to connect the Library’s past with the present and future.
Activities will begin with the unveiling of the contents of the Chapters-of-Our-Lives Time Capsule. The ceremony will feature a group of selected middle school student Guardians who will pledge to protect and carry on HCLS’ legacy over the next 25 years.
Cutting-edge technologies will be on display throughout the day in the HiTech Showroom featuring a Technology Petting Zoo. Educational displays, demonstrations, and presentations will provide up-close encounters with new technology including 3D printers, augmented reality applications and the newest HiTech instructor Zeus, the Nao Robot. Students from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine will show how paramagnetic nanoparticles are being used to train a person’s own immune system to find and fight cancer.

Barry Louis Polisar, a Grammy Award winning musician and author, will provide entertainment beginning at 11:30 pm. A variety of fun crafts and educational activities will be featured for all ages from 11am to 2 pm. Poe, the Baltimore Ravens’ mascot will also be on-hand to add to the day’s spirited festivities from 1 to 2 pm.
