Columbia 50th Birthday Celebration Preview

Information meeting for interested groups set for Wed., Oct. 28

Columbia 50th Birthday Celebration Board of Directors is holding an information meeting on Wed., Oct. 28, from 8-9:30 a.m., at Slayton House in Wilde Lake. The meeting is open to representatives of organizations interested in exploring opportunities to participate in events and activities from March 20-Sept. 22, 2017, during the 6-month celebration of Columbia’s 50th birthday.

Columbia’s official birthday is June 21, and it will be marked by a party and signature events on the weekend that follows. Celebration events, however, will also include three months of pre-birthday events focused on “Appreciate the Past” and three months of post-birthday events focused on “Imagine the Future.” It is expected that artistic programs, cultural and sporting events and social activities will be featured.

The Columbia 5oth Birthday Celebration is a non-profit organization created to coordinate a program of events that honors the bold past, embraces the present and advances the ideals of a progressive, vibrant and inclusive community.

The information meeting will include a presentation and question and answer period. Register at http://columbia50thpreview.eventbrite.com
