Architects, urban planners and landscape architects should apply by Dec. 30 for a spot on the county's design advisory panel.
HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Architects, landscape architects and urban planners are needed to serve on Howard County's design advisory panel. The deadline to apply falls on Dec. 30 at 5 p.m.
"Thoughtful design is a cornerstone of our quality of life here in Howard County,” said Howard County Executive Calvin Ball. “The professionals that serve on the design advisory panel are deeply committed to preserving and enhancing our communities.”
Established in 2008 to encourage excellence in building architecture and site design, DAP consists of seven members representing landscape architects, designers, professional engineers and urban planners. Panel members are responsible for reviewing a variety of projects, including proposed subdivisions, site development plans, conditional use applications and design guidelines. Members serve overlapping three-year terms or until a successor is appointed.
To be eligible for consideration, candidates must be a Howard County resident, have an interest in improving architecture and site design in the county, and be able to attend the panel’s evening meetings generally held the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the George Howard Building at 3430 Court House Drive in Ellicott City. However, meetings are currently taking place virtually via Webex. In addition, architect and landscape architect candidates must be licensed by the State of Maryland.
Applicants should send a resume and brief letter explaining why they want to serve on the panel to Kimberly Pruim either by email to kpruim@howardcountymd.gov or by mail to: Howard County Government, Office of the County Executive, Attn: Kimberly Pruim, 3430 Court House Drive, Ellicott City, MD 21043. Eligible applicants will be interviewed and the names of recommended candidates will be sent to the county executive for final approval, who will then submit his appointment to the County Council for confirmation.
