Desserts and Empty Bowls at Glenwood Middle School Raise Funds for Grassroots

Glenwood Middle School recently held an Empty Bowls event to raise funds for Grassroots

Glenwood Middle School recently held an Empty Bowls event to raise funds for Grassroots, Howard County’s 24-hour crisis intervention center and shelter for the homeless. Guests paid $5 to choose a bowl made by sixth grade students and enjoy desserts made by students in Family and Consumer Science classes. Teachers donated bowls they created to a silent auction. Admission fees and the silent auction brought in $1,147 to support services and programs at Grassroots. Attendees included Guidance Counselor Kelli Brandt, holding Kayleigh O’Connor, the daughter of a Glenwood Middle School colleague. Empty Bowls organizers included (from l.) Assistant Principal Debbie O’Byrne, art teacher Laurie Basham, Principal David Brown, FACS teacher Margie Brown and sixth grade team leader Mary Powers.
