Drama Learning Center to Bring Area Premiere of ELF the Musical, Jr. to Columbia
DLC amends Fall programming to provide area students with the opportunity to produce area premiere of ELF the Musical, Jr.
Drama Learning Center (DLC) has received the rights to produce the area premiere of Elf the Musical, Jr. on its Columbia stage this November and December. Based on the beloved holiday film starring Will Ferrell, Elf follows the larger-than-life Buddy, who is completely unaware that he is actually human despite being the largest toy-maker in the North Pole. When his size and clumsiness reveal his true origin, he heads on a quest to New York City to find his true identity. DLC’s Fall productions of Elf will mark the first in the area as theatrical rights just became available late last week.
“We’ve been excitedly gearing up to start Schoolhouse Rock Live, Jr. at DLC in a couple of weeks,” stated Artistic Director Stephanie Lynn Williams in a memorandum addressed to the families of enrolled students. “Unexpectedly, we were provided the opportunity to produce the area premiere of Elf the Musical, Jr. this Fall instead. After careful thought and consideration, we determined that this was an opportunity for our students and the entire DLC community that we couldn’t allow to pass by.”
In addition to production classes for students in grades 3-12, Drama Learning Center also offers Beginning Acting classes to students from Kindergarten to second grade and Broadway Babies classes for preschool children aged three to five. Beginning Acting classes will present their very own productions of Little Elves. Some class start dates have been adjusted to allow teaching artists adequate time to prepare for the start of classes with a new production.

DLC will continue their School’s Out Workshops on days when Howard County Public Schools are closed to provide students with a creative outlet in a supervised environment while parents are still at work.
Registration is currently open for all of DLC’s Fall 2015 programs. Registration can be completed by phone or online. Elf the Musical, Jr. is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI. www.MTIShows.com.
