Ellicott City Flood: HoCo Road Closures, Disaster Relief

Here's what you need to know about Howard County road closures, disaster relief details and claiming your towed car.

ELLICOTT CITY, MD — In what seems to be a torrent of floods and heavy rains, the Howard County government is informing residents of over a dozen road closures. County, state and federal agencies are available to help those affected by the flooding and police want residents whose cars have been towed to pick them up today.


Road Closures

Howard County's Department of Public Works, Bureau of Highways reported the following roads were closed as of noon Monday:

  • 8125 Washington Boulevard at Mission Road (one lane of south bound closed)
  • Furnace Avenue at County line.
  • River Road at County line in Sykesville
  • New Cut Road between Hillsborough Road and St. Paul Street- Pebble Branch Road
  • 420 Manor Lane (partial closure)
  • Bonnie Branch Road from College Avenue to Ilchester Road (local traffic only)
  • Stevens Forest Road at Broken Land Parkway (westbound one lane partially blocked)
  • Ellicott Mills Drive at Main Street to Fels Lane
  • Main Street from Rogers Avenue to Oella Avenue
  • Around Circuit Courthouse “Local Traffic Only” signs posted at: Court Place at Court Avenue; Park Avenue at Court Avenue; Emory Street at Church Road; and Church Road at Sarah Lane.
  • Ilchester Road at County line

Disaster Relief

Howard County and Maryland agencies are prepared to assist residents affected by the destructive and deadly flood. The County's Disaster Assistance Center (DAC) will be open this week, according to the county's Facebook page.

A total of 18 agencies will have representatives at the Ellicott City 50+ Center located at 9401 Frederick Rd. every day this week from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. They include the Red Cross, a food bank, public works, Social Security and others.

Towed Car Pick Up

Police say 32 towed cars are still unclaimed as of 8 a.m. Monday and want them picked up by 5 p.m. The owners have been contacted, police say.

In the meantime, people who left their vehicles around Main Street on Sunday are asked to send an email with the following information to HCPDCarRecovery@howardcountymd.gov:

  • Name
  • Cell phone
  • Other contact information
  • Car make, model and color
  • Vehicle license plate number

Those who send their information will receive a reply with a response from the Howard County Police Department.
