Ellicott City Flood: State Of Emergency Extended
County officials have extended the state of emergency for Ellicott City until July 3, keeping much needed funds available for relief.

ELLICOTT CITY, MD — Howard County officials decided on Friday to extend the state of emergency for Elliott City, according to reports, amid forecasts of more rain after floods devastated much of the city. It was extended 30 days, now ending July 3.
With the state of emergency in effect, the county has increased power to activate resources to deal with the flood. WTOP reported they must do so under applicable emergency plans.
FOX Baltimore reported Howard County Executive Allan Kittleman issued the executive order, and the council resolved it.

For Ellicott City homes and businesses, the emergency remains. "At this time at least 89 businesses have been affected. along with 76 single-family homes, and 11 multi-family homes," said Ryan Miller, the county's emergency management director, WTOP reports.
Over a dozen buildings are completely inaccessible since the flood destroyed flooring and damaged foundations.

Gov. Larry Hogan said “I have directed the Maryland Emergency Management Agency to work closely with regional representatives from FEMA to seek all available assistance to support our public safety partners and our citizens who were affected as they work to rebuild.”
