Residents Report Theft Of Cash, Jewelry After Ellicott City Homes Broken Into

A pair of Ellicott City homes were broken into last week with the theft of cash and jewelry reported, according to Howard County Police.

ELLICOTT CITY, MD — Residents are reminded to keep their doors and windows lock to prevent unwanted home invasions and burglaries after two homes were broken into last week.

On Aug. 12 from between 5 to 8:15 p.m., two homes were broken into in Ellicott City.

One home, located in the 5100 block of Waterloo Road, reported a suspect entering the home through a window and the subsequent theft of cash, jewelry and other items.

A second home, located in the 4000 block of Font Hill Drive, reported a suspect gaining access to the home through a window and the theft of cash and jewelry.

The Howard County Police Department recommends residents follow these five tips to keep their homes secure:

1. - Always keep all doors, including your garage door and rear slider, closed and locked.

2. - Ensure that the door leading from your garage to the interior of your home also is locked.

3. - Keep valuables in an unexpected place in case a thief makes it inside. For example, don’t keep your most valuable jewelry in your jewelry box. Burglars want to get in and out quick, so don’t make it easy for them to find your valuable or sentimental items.

4. - Always lock your vehicles and remove valuable property. Even if your garage door is closed, a garage door opener in an unlocked car is like a key to your home.

5. - Always report suspicious activity in your neighborhood by calling 911 or non-emergency 410-313-2200.
