Sonic of Ellicott City to Open for Business

Fast food restaurant Sonic will celebrate its grand opening in Ellicott City on Thursday, Oct. 16.

While Sonic offers burgers and shakes like other fast food establishments, what distinguishes it from other chains is that “car hops” bring food to individual vehicles, which—rather than driving up to a window and pulling into a line—pull up to an individual station with a menu and button.

There was a “friends and family soft opening” on Wednesday, when the restaurant donated 50 percent of the proceeds to HopeWorks, a nonprofit dedicated to ending sexual and domestic violence in Howard County.

Sonic is located at 10160 Baltimore National Pike, on the same side of Route 40 as the Enchanted Forest, approximately 0.2 mile west of the shopping center.

At 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 16, County Executive Ken Ulman will assist in the ribbon-cutting at Sonic. The grand opening will be at noon.
