Ellicott City Receives Nearly $40K From Macy's For Flood Recovery

Department store staff helped clean up Main Street in Ellicott City and donated more than $39,000 to flood recovery.

ELLICOTT CITY, MD — Macy's announced that it has raised nearly $40,000 to assist with flood recovery in Ellicott City. Representatives from the department store helped clean up around downtown on Wednesday and presented a check with their donation.

The presentation took place outside the B&O Ellicott City Station Museum on Maryland Avenue.

Macy's presented a check to the Ellicott City Partnership for $39,347.01. Money came from a Macy's store fundraiser that netted $19,347.01 and a supplemental donation from Macy's of $20,000, company officials said in a statement.

Main Street in downtown Ellicott City has reopened after the May 27 flood but damage remains, and there are several local business and property owners continuing to clean up from the severe flash flood.

Approximately half of the businesses have reopened, according to WJZ, which reported the rest plan on being back in business by the end of the fall.

Some got a leg up and extra sets of hands Wednesday as staff from Macy's helped paint, wash windows, clean ledges and take other actions to help them get back on their feet.
