Ellicott City Stream Damaged By Flooding To Be Stabilized
A public meeting will be held Jan. 23 at 6:30 p.m. in Ellicott City to discuss a stabilization project to fix a stream damaged by flooding.

ELLICOTT CITY, MD — An unnamed tributary to the Hudson Branch in Historic Ellicott City will undergo a stabilization project after sustaining erosion in 2016 and 2018 flooding. Howard County’s department of public works (DPW) will hold a public meeting Jan. 23 at 6:30 p.m. in the Columbia/Ellicott City Room at the George Howard Building, 3430 Court House Drive in Ellicott City, to present the stream stabilization project's plans.
The stream starts at Courthouse Drive and runs to Parking Lot F near the intersection of Ellicott Mills Drive and Main Street. The stream will be stabilized using wood and rock structures plus bio-engineering planting to reestablish a more natural stream, reduce in-stream erosion and improve water quality. The area disturbed by the construction will be replanted when the project is completed. Construction is expected to begin this summer.
The informal meeting will include a brief overview of the project and draft construction drawings will be available for viewing. County staff and the project’s design consultant, McCormick Taylor, will be on hand to answer any questions.
