Long Gate McDonald's Fire Under Investigation

Firefighters encountered smoke coming from the Playplace at McDonald's in Long Gate Shopping Center, Howard County officials said.

ELLICOTT CITY, MD – A fire at the McDonald's near Long Gate Parkway Sunday morning required firefighters to take apart the Playplace area and part of the building's roof, officials reported.

Crews responded to the fast food restaurant, located at the Long Gate Shopping Center in the 4300 block of Montgomery Road, at 8:30 a.m. for a reported building fire, according to the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services.

First responders found smoke coming from the Playplace and had to remove a large portion of the ceiling to get to the fire, officials reported. They also opened part of the roof to access the blaze and make sure it was totally out.

Approximately 40 firefighters participated in the effort, and there were no injuries, authorities reported.

The fire was declared out by 10 a.m., according to Howard County fire and rescue personnel.

A fire investigator is working to determine the cause and origin of the blaze.

The restaurant will be closed until the Howard County Health Department clears it for reopening.
