Give the Gift of Independence as a Neighbor Ride Volunteer

Give seniors the lift they need to remain active and independent by volunteering with Neighbor Ride. No set schedule is required.

On November 17, 2004 Neighbor Ride launched its volunteer-driven transportation service with the goal of decreasing isolation and improving the quality of life for Howard County’s older residents. Today, our dedicated volunteers provide an average of 1,400 trips per month for medical appointments, shopping, social outings, faith services, volunteer activities and other day-to-day needs. In the words of two passengers, “We have been able to retain our independence because of Neighbor Ride...Thanks so much and bless each and every one of your volunteers.”

You can help give seniors the lift they need to remain active and independent by volunteering as a Neighbor Ride driver. Flexible and rewarding daytime, evening and weekend volunteer opportunities are available. Drivers are asked to commit to just two rides a month; and may choose to provide ones that both fit their schedules and are convenient to their homes, offices, and daily routines. Parents are welcome to bring their children along when volunteering for a wonderful inter-generational experience.

Volunteer Orientation sessions are held every Tuesday at 9:30 am; and one evening orientation is also held each month. Contact Patrice or Holly at 410-884-RIDE (7433) or volunteer@neighborride.org for more information about volunteering. You may also visit us on the web at www.neighborride.org
