Glenwood Middle Students Visit Grassroots

Sixth graders traveled to crisis intervention center to deliver money and food for children and adults who are homeless.

Students from Glenwood Middle School recently visited Grassroots in Columbia to deliver food items and a check for $1,183 to help fund programs to assist adults and children in the shelter programs. Joining hundreds of other students in Howard County, Glenwood’s sixth graders held a Change Matters campaign, collecting change and gathering food items as part of their Student Service Learning project on better understanding homelessness in Howard County. This is the sixth year that Glenwood Middle School has participated in Change Matters. Grassroots is Howard County’s 24-hour crisis intervention center and shelter for people who are homeless.

Visiting Grassroots were (back row from l.) April Smith, Faith Haney, Heidi Mae Richardson, Madison Miller, (middle row from l.) Samantha Vogts, Hope Wilmeth, Brad Jones, Keagan Treacy, (front row from l.) Bryse Wade, Grassroots Business Manager Anna Katz, and Heather Vallone.
